Zi Lu said, "There are (there) common people and officers; there are the altars of the spirits of the land and grain."
孟子·盡心上》:有安社臣者,以安社為悅者也。
There are ministers who seek the tranquillity of the State, and find their pleasure in securing that tranquillity.
禮記·曲禮下》:國君去其國,止之曰:「奈何去社也!」
When the ruler of a state (is proposing to) leave it, they should (try to) stop him, saying, 'Why are you leaving the altars of the spirits of the land and grain?'
孝經·聖治》:昔者,周公郊祀後以配天,宗祀文王於明堂,以配上帝。
Formerly the duke of Zhou at the border altar sacrificed to Hou Ji as the correlate of Heaven, and in the Brilliant Hall he honored king Wen and sacrificed to him as the correlate of God.
揚子法言》:種、蠡不強諫而山棲,俾其君詘社之靈而童僕,又終斃吳,賢皆不足邵也,至蠡策種而遁,肥矣哉!
Wen Zhong and Fan Li did not strongly remonstrate against King Gou Jian of Yue's plan to attack the state of Wu, and he was held by King Fuchai of Wu for three years on Mount Kuaiji. They caused their ruler to yield the altars of the spirits of earth and become a servant boy to King Fuchai. In the end, they destroyed Wu, but none of them were good enough to be considered worthy. In the end Fan Li sent Wen Zhong a letter warning him to flee and then escaped to go fatten himself!

With these seven causes present in the maintenance of the state, the state will perish.
莊子·胠篋》:闔四竟之內,所以立宗廟社,治邑、屋、州、閭、鄉曲者,曷嘗不法聖人哉!
All within its four boundaries, the establishment of the ancestral temples and of the altars of the land and grain, and the ordering of the hamlets and houses, and of every corner in the districts, large, medium, and small, were in all particulars according to the rules of the sages.
