哀公問宰我，製作土地爺用哪種木頭。宰我說：「夏朝用鬆，殷朝用柏，周朝用栗，說：使人膽戰心驚。」孔子聽後說：「以前的事不要再評說了，做完的事不要再議論了，過去了就不要再追咎。」

追究，而非追咎，咎責則可。傳統注家用文言，意即追而咎責之。此處用語體文翻譯，似不宜照搬。不過非必改之物。
